ABSTRACT

Objectives: Head And Neck Cancers Are Now Common Worldwide. One Of The Most Commonly Used Methods To Treat Head And Neck Cancer Is Irradiation. However, Irradiation Has Some Side Effects That May Affect Patients? Life, So It Is Important To Find A Convenient Way To Reduce Those Side Effecs. The Current Study Was Performed To Investigate And Compare The Effect Of Microvesicles To Bone Marrow Stem Cells On Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A In Parotid Salivary Gland Of Irradiated Albino Rats. The Parotid Glands Were Also Examined Histologically. Design: Forty Eight Male Albino Rats Were Utilized, Sixteen As Irradiated Group (Positive Control) And Thirty Two As Bone Marrow Stem Cells And Microvesicles Treatment Groups. The Parotid Glands Were Dissected And Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A Were Detected By ELISA.

Results: The ELISA Results Showed That Administration Of Bone Marrow Stem Cells And Microvesicles Decreased Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A That Were Elevated As A Result Of Irradiation. Histological Examination Also Revealed Better Gland Morphology In The Bone Marrow Stem Cells As Well As Microvesicles Treated Groups.

Conclusions: The Most Prominent Ameliorative Effect Was Found Associated With Microvesicles Administration. Bone Marrow Stem Cells Have Shown Ameliorative Effects On Parotid Glands As Well. However, Further Studies Are Required To Assess The Safety Of These Methods.
